Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some answers to your questions about Safe Deposit Boxes.

What is a safe deposit box?
A safe deposit box is a sturdy metal container which members may rent for the purpose of safekeeping valuables. These boxes are retained in small compartments, each with a separate lock. Safe deposit boxes are available in different sizes to meet members' needs.
Who may rent a safe deposit box?
Safe deposit boxes are available to all Patriot members.
Why should I rent a safe deposit box?
The modern safe deposit vault affords invaluable protection - and at nominal cost. Many of your documents and valuables are irreplaceable. Even when replacement is possible, the annoyance, inconvenience and expense could be considerable.
Does the rental involve "red tape"?
No. All you are asked to do is sign an agreement covering the rental of the box and provide adequate identification for your protection as well as ours. A box is then assigned to you, and you are given two keys to it. Whenever you wish to use it, you are requested to sign your name on a slip which is quickly compared with your signature on the original agreement, and you are then given access to the box.
Is it expensive?
No. It is possible to rent a safe deposit box for pennies a day. Any array of sizes are available for your convenience.
May I have access to my safe deposit box as freely as I wish?
Yes. You may remove or add to the contents of your safe deposit box at any time during regular business hours. No waiting - no inconvenience.
Do I have complete privacy?
Yes, you take your deposit box to a private room.
Can anyone else have access to my safe deposit box?
No one unless you provide authorization.

What to Keep & What Not to Keep In Your Safe Deposit Box

What should be kept in a safe deposit box:
Documents that would be difficult or impossible to replace, such as birth certificates, vehicle titles, service records, insurance policies, passports, deeds and marriage certificates should be kept in a safe deposit box. A safe deposit box is also a good place for jewelry, collectables, contracts, leases, stocks and bonds. Your Will should be kept in your safe deposit box and a copy retained in your home, your office or with your attorney.

What should not be kept in a safe deposit box:
Many boxes are sealed upon the death of the owner; they should not contain documents that will be needed immediately such as cemetery lot deeds and instructions for funeral arrangements. In your passing, items in your box that may have been stored for others, may have their ownership questioned and the item's owner may have difficulty regaining their property; and therefore should not be stored in your box. Large amounts of cash does not belong in a safe deposit box; it makes better sense to keep those funds in an insured savings account where they are readily available, earn dividends and are constantly growing.

Remember, these are suggestions only; you can keep anything, within reason, in your box. Always keep your safe deposit box keys in a safe place; if lost, the box must be drilled open by a locksmith, in the presence of the owner, at the owner’s expense.

What you keep in your safe deposit box is your choice. However, since many people are uncertain about what a box should contain, here are some suggestions that might prove helpful.
